Father John A. Balleza passed into eternal life over Easter weekend, on March 31, 2024,  at the Contemplatives of St. Joseph Monastery at Mater Dolorosa at the age of 70 years.

Father Balleza was ordained to the priesthood almost 39 years ago on November 16, 1985. Fr. Balleza served in the Archdiocese from 1985 until his retirement in 2022. He served in the following parishes: Saint John the Evangelist Parish in San Francisco, Saint Charles Parish in San Carlos, Saint Patrick Parish in San Francisco, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Redwood City, and Saint Raphael Parish in San Rafael. Fr. Balleza also served as the Archbishop’s Administrative Assistant, Chaplain for Kaiser in San Francisco, and volunteered as the Chaplain for Laguna Honda Hospital Pastoral Care in San Francisco.
