Rev. John R. Price, former pastor of Mary, Queen of Heaven Parish in Cicero, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2025, at the age of 85.
Price was born on July 2, 1940, in Chicago. He attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein.
Price was ordained to the priesthood on April 26, 1966, by Archbishop John P. Cody. After ordination to the priesthood, Price served as assistant pastor of St. Celestine Parish in Elmwood Park and St. Peter Parish in Skokie. Later he served as associate pastor at St. Hubert Parish in Hoffman Estates, St. Eulalia Parish (now part of Sacred Heart and St. Eulalia Parish) and St. Ann Parish in Lansing. Price served for 12 years as pastor of Mary, Queen of Heaven Parish. He also served as a chaplain at Northeastern Illinois University for six years.
Rev. Leroy A. Wickowski, retired archdiocesan priest, remembers Price as a “good friend, strong in his beliefs and convictions.” Rev. Thomas J. Vitro, retired archdiocesan priest, also had good memories of his classmate mentioning Price was “vocal, hard-working and great priest.”
The funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish), 41 St. Joseph Street in Markesan, Wisconsin, in the Diocese of Madison.
Msgr. James Gunn from the Diocese of Madison will be the main celebrant and homilist.
