Rev. Robert G. Mair, pastor emeritus of St. Catherine Labouré Parish in Glenview, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the age of 86.

Mair was born on Aug. 31, 1939, in Chicago. He attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein.

Mair was ordained to the priesthood on April 29, 1965, by Most Rev. Cletus Francis O’Donnell, and celebrated his first solemn Mass on May 2 of the same year at St. Justin Parish in Chicago.

After ordination, Mair served as assistant pastor at St. Nicholas Parish in Evanston and St. Joseph Parish in Wilmette. He was associate pastor at St. Peter Parish in Skokie and St. Mary of the Lake Parish on North Sheridan Road. He started serving the parish community of St. Catherine Labouré Parish in 2000 and continued serving the parish in Glenview until 2009 when he was bestowed the title of pastor emeritus.

Rev. William E. Vanecko, one of Mair’s classmates, remembered him as a good pastor and athlete. “He was a big fan of golf,” Vanecko said, as he recalled the days when they played basketball and softball together.

All funeral services will be held at St. Catherine Labouré Church, 3535 Thornwood Avenue in Glenview. Lying in state will take place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7 p.m., and on Friday, April 10 from 10 to 11 a.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 10 at 11 a.m. Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant and Vanecko will be the homilist.

Interment will be private.
