Eugene E. Costa, 70, of Springfield, died at 5:55 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at St. John’s Hospital.

Gene was born December 29, 1950, in Springfield, the son of Eugene C. and Bernadette Quinn Costa.

He received his Bachelor of Arts at Cardinal Glennon College from 1968 to 1972 and earned his S.T.L. at Gregorian University in Rome, Italy from 1972 to 1977. He was ordained a Catholic Priest in 1976 and Gene was a Priest for over 25 years.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Elizabeth Kapnick.

He is survived by his siblings, Michael and David (wife, Sharon) Costa, both of Springfield, Martha Elafros of Tucson, AZ, and Edward Costa of Decatur; six nieces and nephews; two great-nephews; uncles; and many cousins.

Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut St., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant. COVID-19 guidance will be followed, requiring face coverings.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
