ALBANY Rev. Almerico DiCerbo, 84, died Thursday, June 17, 2004 at Teresian
House. He was born in Schenectady on June 21, 1920, the son of the late
Michele and Lucia DiCerbo. A graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in
Schenectady, he attended St. Charles Seminary, Baltimore, Md. and completed
his studies in philosophy and theology at St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Md.
He was ordained as a priest on June 15, 1946 at the Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception, Albany by Most Rev. Edmund F. Gibbons. In 1955, he
received a doctorate in Canon Law from Lateran University, Rome, Italy. Father
DiCerbo first served as assistant pastor at St. Vincent de Paul, Albany.
During his years in Albany, he served as chaplain at both St. Anne Institute
and the College of St. Rose. Father Almerico was assigned as assistant pastor
at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Delmar and St. Teresa of Avila, Albany. He
later served as pastor at St. Joseph's, Little Falls, Our Lady of Mount
Carmel, Amsterdam, St. Patrick's, St. Johnsville and as administrator of St.
Joseph Parish, West Winfield. After receiving his doctorate in Canon Law, he
served as auditor, pro-synodal judge, synodal judge, defender of the bond,
administrator of procedural cases and promoter of justice on the Diocesan
Tribunal. Even after his retirement, he continued to serve until his health
prevented him from doing so. Survivors include his stepmother, Luigia DiCerbo
of Rotterdam; four sisters, Sister Antonia DiCerbo, CSJ of St. Joseph
Provincal House, Latham, Margaret and her husband, Ralph DeRizzo, of
Guilderland, Sister Elvira DiCerbo, MPF, of Haddonfield, N.J. and Lucia
DiCerbo of Rotterdam; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a
sister, Anna Marotta; and six brothers, Patrick, Arthur, Ulderico, Louis,
Marcello and Alfonso DiCerbo. The Reception of the Body will be at 4:00 p.m.
on Sunday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. There will be a viewing until
7:00 p.m. when Vespers will be celebrated. The funeral Mass will be celebrated
at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:00 a.m. Monday with Most Rev. Howard
Hubbard, Bishop of Albany, as principal celebrant. Burial will be in Most Holy
Redeemer Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to Our Lady of Mount
