The Rev. Antonio I. Bico, 43, of South Orange died on Wednesday at N.Y.U. Medical Center, New York City. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday, Sept. 27, in Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 403 Spring St., Elizabeth,N.J., at 7:30 p.m. Interment is private. Visiting is on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Seton Hall University Chapel, South Orange, N.J., from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Visiting is also on Sunday at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, 85-89 Jefferson St., Newark, from 2 to 5 p.m. Vigil Mass is at 5:30 p.m. Visiting is on Monday at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Elizabeth, from 12 to 7 p.m. Arrangements are by the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, Elizabeth.
Father Antonio was born in Coimbra, Portugal, came to this country as a child and settled in Elizabeth for 12 years. He then lived in Union before moving to South Orange. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University in 1989. He studied in Rome and was ordained a deacon in Rome in October 1992. He was ordained to the priesthood in Newark on May 29, 1993. Father Antonio served as a parochial vicar at Holy Cross Church, Harrison, and in Our Lady of Fatima R.C. churches, both inElizabethandNewark, before returning as a professor of theology at the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology three years ago. He was also spiritual director of the seminary. He received his doctorate (STD) from Our Lady of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein,Ill., in 2007. He was active in QUEST and CURA Jovem, Newark. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 11798, Elizabeth, and active in prison ministry.
Father Antonio is survived by his parents, Antonio A. and Felismina de JesusVenturaBico; a twin brother, Agostinho V. Bico and his wife, Fernanda; a sister, Fernanda Nunes and her husband, Fernando; his maternal grandmother, Mercedes Ventura; two nieces and two nephews, Brandon and Savanna Bico, and Joshua and Alexic Nunes. In lieu of flowers, donations to Immaculate Conception Seminary in his memory would be appreciated.
