Reverend Clarence Joseph Waguespack, a Roman Catholic Priest for the Diocese of Baton Rouge, a native of Vacherie, Louisiana and a resident of Pierre Part, Louisiana died in a cycling accident, Monday, December 8, 2014 at the age of 77. He is survived by his sisters, Janet W. Zeringue and Claire W. Amedee, sister and brother-in-law, Myrna W. Falgoust and Lester Falgoust, brother and sister-in-law, Raymond G. Waguespack and Mary Jean M. Waguespack, brother-in-law, Terry Folse, Godson, Philip G. Amedee; 18 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Annette Simon Waguespack, his sister, Annette Waguespack Folse and his brothers-in-law, Etienne A. Zeringue and Manuel J. Amedee. Father Waguespack entered the seminary at age 14. He attended St. Joseph Seminary in Covington, Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans and the Gregorian University at the North American College in Rome. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 19, 1962 at the Church of Christo Re, Christ the King in Rome. He celebrated his first Mass at St. Philip Church in Vacherie, La. Father Waguespack has been a parish priest serving the parishes of Holy Family in Port Allen, St. Charles Borromeo, and St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge. His first pastorate was at St. Joan of Arc in Bayou Pigeon and he was founding pastor of St. Mark’s Gonzales. He also served as temporary chaplain at Angola State Prison, temporary administrator of St. Francis of Assisi in Smoke Bend, pastor of Ascension of Our Lord in Donaldsonville, Our Lady of Peace in Vacherie, and St. Joseph the Worker in Pierre Part. One of Fr. Waguespack’s interests was the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. He was a past State Chaplain of the CDA. He was well known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and leading many pilgrimages to Medjugorje. He was very involved with the Magnificat. He was an avid sports fan. He loved everything LSU, the Saints, fishing, bike riding, flying planes, and kayaking. Fr. Waguespack’s visitation will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part, Louisiana, Friday, December 12, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. and will resume on Saturday, December 13, 2014, 8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Philip Catholic Church mausoleum in Vacherie. Arrangements by Ourso Funeral Home in Pierre Part. The family would like to thank everyone that had any part in his life, especially his Pierre Part family. A seminary scholarship in the name of Fr. Clarence J. Waguespack will be established with the Diocese of Baton Rouge Seminary Scholarship Fund. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to this Scholarship fund.
