Father Daniel J. Boyle, 69, longtime time pastor of the former St. Thomas Aquinas and Notre Dame parishes, later merged into Blessed John Paul II Parish, in Adams, died on Dec. 17. He was most recently pastor of St. Cecilia Parish in Wilbraham.

He was born on June 28, 1951 in Springfield, the son of the late Joseph E. and Mary (Manning) Boyle, and was a native of the former Our Lady of Hope Parish, there. He graduated from Commerce High School in Springfield and attended Holyoke Community College for two years before completing a bachelor of science degree in business administration from North Adams State College (now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts).

He completed priesthood studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., and was a member of the Class of 1973. He was ordained on June 17, 1978 in Sacred Heart Church, Springfield, by Springfield Bishop Joseph F. Maguire.

Father Boyle served as an assistant at Holy Cross Parish, Springfield, from 1978-1984; at St. Mary Parish, Springfield, from 1984-1986; and at Our Lady of Hope Parish, Springfield, from 1987-1993. He served as chaplain at Mercy Hospital (now Mercy Medical Center) in Springfield from 1986-1987.

His diocesan appointments included serving on the Diocesan Vocation Advisory Committee; and as dean of the Northern Berkshire Deanery from 2002-2005.

He served as administrator of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Springfield, from Aug. 7-Sept. 23, 1992; at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Adams, from 1993-1995; and at Notre Dame Parish, Adams, from 1994-1995 (in addition to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish); and at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Adams, from Jan. 16-May 9, 2003.

He was pastor of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas parishes, Adams, from 1995-2009; and at Blessed John Paul II Parish, Adams, from 2009-2014. He then served as pastor at St. Cecilia Parish, Wilbraham, from 2014 until his retirement on May 1, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued as administrator of St. Cecilia’s until June 30, 2020, when a new pastor was appointed.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Dec. 21 from 2-5 p.m. at St. Cecilia Parish, 42 Main Street, Wilbraham. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Cecilia Parish.
