Fr. David J. Bartley, 72, of Salem, died on Wednesday, January 27, 2015, following a brief illness. During his active ministry which began in June of 1970, he served the Archdiocese of Boston in parishes in the following cities and towns, South Boston, Newton, Lynn, Swampscott, Salem, Peabody and Danvers, as well as 10 years of Hospital Ministry. After his retirement in 2004, he served in parishes in Ipswich, Topsfield, Lynnfield, Middleton, Beverly Farms, Medford and West Peabody.

He is survived by three brothers, Richard J. and wife, Sally of Damariscotta, Maine, Paul and wife, Gail of Dataw Island, S.C., James and wife Elizabeth of Rye, N.H.; two sisters, Mary Louise Bartley of Amesbury, Margaret and husband, Bill Roche of Buxton, Maine and his devoted friend, Sean P. O’Neil as well as nieces and nephews.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at 2 p.m. in St. Adelaide Church, 708 Lowell St. W. Peabody, with an hour of visitation prior from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to EWTN, 5817 Old Leeds Rd, Irondale, AL 35210-2164, or the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 15 Mount Carmel Rd., Danvers, 01923-3796. Funeral arrangements are by the Levesque Funeral Home of Salem.
