Rev. David R. Kiefer, 75, Neopit, passed away Saturday May 21, 2011. Born on Feb. 16, 1936, in Green Bay, he was the son of the late Ray and Regina (Schauer) Kiefer. After graduating from high school, Father Dave attended the Junior College at St. Francis Seminary and in 1959 received his Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America.

On Dec. 19, 1962, Father Kiefer was ordained by the Archbishop Martin J. O’Connor at Christ the King Church in Rome. The following year, Father Kiefer received his STL Degree in Theology at the North American College and Pontifical Gregorian University inRome.

He later studied Educational Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In September of 1963, he became the Assistant at the St. Mary Parish in Menasha and in 1966 became administrator of St. Mary Central High School in Menasha. Six years later, Father Dave became the director at the Sacred Heart Seminary inGreen Bayand of the Oneida Summer Program and in 1977 was named the executive director of the Office of Personnel. In 1980, he was released to work for The Center for Human Development inWashingtonD.C.

During the next decade he became a member of the Bishop’s Administrative Council, first Administrator and then Priest Moderator at the St. James Parish inWhiteLakeand at St. Stanislaus in Langlade while also continuing to serve as Director of Personnel and was appointed Vicar for Priests.

On Aug. 1, 1991, Rev. Dave Kiefer answered the calling for a priest at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit on the Menominee Indian Reservation. By 2006 his calling had expanded to include St. Joseph Holy Family Parish in Phlox and the Holy Family Parish in Mattoon as well as continuing his role as administrator of St. James in White Lake and St. Stanislaus in Langlade. On Sept. 1, 2010, Fr. Dave Kiefer retired as priest but remained administrator at St. James and St. Stanislaus
