Father David L. Nott, a faithful priest of the Diocese of Richmond, died Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 after a brief illness. Born June 13, 1948 in Eugene Ore., Father Nott was the oldest of four children born to Ray and Alicia Nott. He is predeceased by his father, and is survived by his mother and three brothers, Nick of Eugene, Ore.; Mel of Junction City, Ore. and Ron of Solvang, Calif.

After graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, Father Nott spent several years as an apprentice to organ builder Rudolph Janke in Göttingen, Germany.

He was employed as an organ builder with the firm of Taylor and Boody in Staunton, Va. from 1977 until he began philosophy and theology studies in 1986. He attended the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy and graduated with a degree in Sacramental Theology in 1990. Father Nott completed his seminary training at the North American College in Rome, graduating in 1993. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Walter F. Sullivan on June 26, 1993 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Va.

Father Nott served in the following parishes: Saint Bede, Williamsburg (1993-1994); Saint Bridget, Richmond (1994-1995); Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Hot Springs (1995-2002); Our Lady of Peace, Appomattox (2003-2004); Saint Victoria, Hurt (2003-2004); Saint Pius X, Norfolk (2005-2007); Saint Joseph, Petersburg (2007); Saint John, Dinwiddie (2007-2010) and Saint Mary of the Annunciation, Caroline County (2010-2012). He had worked in the Diocese of Richmond Tribunal as an Instructor since June 2007, and as Vice Chancellor for the diocese from 2012 until his death.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley’s Funeral Home, 3801 Augusta Avenue, Richmond, with Christian Wake Service beginning at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 18 North Laurel Street, Richmond, at 11 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
