HUNTSBURG – Father George ”Spike” Methodius Duritsa, 85, died Friday, June 5, 2009, while living at Blossom Hill Care Center in Huntsburg.

He was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Farrell, Pa., the son of George and Margaret Duritsa. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

He joined the Navy at the start of World War Il, training at Great Lakes Naval Station and serving as QM l/c in the amphibious forces in the Pacific Theatre during invasions of the Marshall Islands, the Marian Islands, New Guinea, and various mop-up operations.

He was pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in McDonald for 25 years.

He is survived by a sister, Carol Triggs of Lyndhurst, and by 11 nieces and nephews. Two sisters preceded him in death.

A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with calling hours one hour before the service. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Ashtabula Harbor.
