Rev. George C. Newmeyer, M.Div., pastor of St. Bonaventure Parish in Glenshaw, died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002. at age 60. He was born June 26, 1942, in Pittsburgh, son of Alice (Newmeyer) Buesker and the late George J. Newmeyer. He attended South Hills Catholic High School. Rev. Newmeyer earned a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Divinity from St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe. From 1968 to 1978, Rev. Newmeyer served as parochial vicar first for St. Norbert Parish, then St. Valentine Parish and Resurrection Parish. From 1978 to 1989, he served as director of the Office of Justice and Peace at the Diocese of Pittsburgh Pastoral Center. From 1981 to 1989, Rev. Newmeyer served as chaplain of the motherhouse at the Sisters of St. Francis in Whitehall, where he also served as confessor from 1986 to 1988. After a six-month sabbatical to North American College at the Vatican, he served as parochial vicar for a year at St. Bartholomew Parish. In 1991, Rev. Newmeyer began serving as an administrator for St. Bonaventure Parish, and has been pastor since 1992. He is survived by his mother, Alice (Newmeyer) Buesker. Stepson of Bernard Buesker. Brother of Bruce J. Newmeyer and Nancy Gordon. Stepbrother of Bernard Buesker, James Buesker and Sue Batdorf. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the social hall of St. Bonaventure Church, 2001 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Translation of the Body Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. A Memorial Mass will be held in St. Bonaventure Church at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Bishop Donald Wuerl in St. Bonaventure Church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Bridgeville. Memorials may be made to St. Bonaventure Church Development Fund or Endowment Fund in memory of Father George.
