Fr. Gerald P. McCourt, S.J. Oct. 20, 1940 – July 9, 2012 Father Gerald P. McCourt, S.J., 71, died July 9, 2012 in Los Gatos. He was a Jesuit for 53 years and had recently celebrated his 40th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood. Jerry was born in San Francisco on October 25, 1940. He attended St. Ignatius College Prep (Class of 1958) and one year at the University of San Francisco before joining the Jesuit Order at Los Gatos on August 14, 1959. He was ordained a priest on June 10, 1972. Jerry’s ministry was spent in high school, parish, retreat, and administrative ministries. He taught Classics and Theology at Jesuit High School, 1973-81, Brophy College Prep, Phoenix, 1981-87, and Bellarmine College Prep, San Jose, 1987-88. He served as Pastor of Holy Family Church, San Jose, 1988-93 and as Retreat Director at the Jesuit Retreat Center, Los Altos, 1993-2004. His final years of ministry were as Senior Priest, St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, Sacramento. Jerry is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Witiw of Seattle and Maureen Mallon of San Francisco and several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 16 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, 300 College Ave., Los Gatos, CA. Burial will immediately follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St., Santa Clara, CA. Donations in his memory may be sent to the California Province of the Society of Jesus, P.O.
