The Reverend Gilio Dipre, Ph.D., age 86, passed away on July 14, 2015, at Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, Erie, Pa.

Father Dipre was born on October 2, 1928, on Winslow Hill, Elk County, Pennsylvania, to the late Romano and Matilda (Cesa) Dipre.

After attending Benezette Grade School and Cathedral Preparatory School, he entered St. Mark Seminary in 1947, and while in formation there, attended Gannon College in Erie until 1949. He received his major seminary formation at Christ the King Seminary in Buffalo, New York, while studying at St. Bonaventure College. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Erie on May 19, 1955, in St. Peter Cathedral, by Bishop Edward McManaman.

Father Dipre spent his years of active priestly ministry teaching philosophy at Gannon College, which became Gannon University during his tenure there. While teaching at Gannon, he also served as weekend assistant at Holy Trinity Parish in Erie. Father Dipre was also active in Marriage Encounter, as a chaplain to the Knights of Columbus, and in the House of Prayer ministry in Erie. For many years, Father Dipre spent a number of weeks in the summer living with the community at Madonna House, Combermere, Ontario, Canada.

He retired from Gannon and from active ministry in 1998.

Father Dipre is survived by his brother, Joseph Dipre Sr., nieces Virginia Rogers and Laura Luddy (Jim), nephews Joseph Dipre Jr. (Sue), all of Erie, and John Dipre (Pam) of Ohio, and nine great-nephews and one great-niece.

The family would like to thank the staff of Saint Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, as well as the staff of Great Lakes Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care, for their wonderful and compassionate care of their uncle.

At the request of Father Dipre, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately, at St. Boniface Church in Kersey. Lynch-Green Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, and online condolences may be placed at www.lynchgreenfuneralhome.com. Interment will be at Saint Boniface Cemetery, Kersey, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice, in Father Dipre’s name.
