Fr. Grady Jacob Estilette

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Fr. Grady Jacob Estilette, 77, at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Bishop Michael Jarrell officiating. Interment will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visiting hours will resume on Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 8 a.m. until service time.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Fr. Estilette passed away at 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Dauterive Hospital.

Fr. Estilette attended North American College in Rome, Italy, Notre Dame Seminary and Immaculata Seminary, both in Louisiana. He was ordained on December 18, 1963, at St. Ignatius Loyola in Rome, Italy. His assignments included Associate Pastor at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Lake Charles; Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte; St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas; St. Peter Apostle in Gueydan and Pastor at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lafayette and St. Peter Apostle in Gueydan and its Mission, St. David Chapel, Haire.

He held the following positions for the Diocese of Lafayette: Field Editor for Morning Star, 1972; Catholic Social Services Board, 1973; Officials Vice, 1973; Officials Acting, 1976; Officials Diocesan Tribunal, 1976, 1980 and 1983; Judge of Tribunal, Defender of Bond, 1988 and Judge of Tribunal, 1991, 1992 and 1993.

He is survived by one sister Eula Babaz of New Iberia; nieces and nephews Raymond Wilson Babaz Jr. and Roberta Viator Babaz, Stephanie Babaz Spalding and William, Eula Babaz Landry and Raymond, Mary Elizabeth Babaz, Paul David Babaz and Renee Coreil Babaz, Barbara “Bootsie” Carter, Felix “Buster” Estilette Jr., Darrell Estilette, Stacey Estilette and Dayne Estilette; great nieces and nephews, Rodney Champagne and Nicole Reed Champagne, Ryan Babaz, Alex Babaz, Lauren Landry, Jacob Landry, William Pocock, Allison Pocock, John Pocock, Carter Babaz, Abigail Babaz, Ansley Babaz, Jolene Thiel, G.F. Carter, Gabriel Estilette and Kelly Eldridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Eula Vincent Estilette; one brother Felix Francis Estilette and his wife Barbara; and his brother-in-law Raymond Wilson Babaz Sr.
