The Rev. James Busch, C.P., 83, died June 26 following a long illness. Born June 23, 1916 in Chicago, he professed religious vows July 26, 1936 and was ordained a priest in the Passionist Congregation on Aug. 8, 1942.

During more than 50 years as a priest, he preached in parish missions and retreats, working throughout the Midwest, for 20 years in California, and for a year in Japan. He held various administrative positions for the Passionists. He recently returned to Chicago and was staying in Daneo Hall at the provincial headquarters at Harlem and Talcott.

He was remembered for his gentleness, his deep spirit of prayer, a love of learning and his engaging smile.

Visitation was held June 28 at the Passionist Monastery. His funeral Mass was celebrated June 29 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Funeral arrangements were handled by the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home.

Rev. Busch is survived by a sister-in-law, Santa Maria Busch of Naples, Fla., and by nieces and cousins.
