Rev. James V. Hickey, Jr., pastor of St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, died Friday, (March 29, 2002). He was born in Hartford, August 14, 1939, son of the late James V. and Helen Collins Hickey; brother of Sister Maris Stella Hickey, Sisters of St. Joseph, Hartford, and Frances Kovaleski and her husband Milton of Bristol; and uncle of Cathleen Devine and James Kovaleski. He attended St. Augustine School, Hartford; St. Thomas Seminary, Hartford; St. John Seminary, Brighton, MA; and the North American College in Rome. He received a Master of Sacred Theology from the Yale University Divinity School and a Master of Arts from Princeton University. Following his ordination at St. Peter in Rome on Dec. 16, 1964 he served at St. Maurice Church, New Britain; St. Rose Church, East Hartford; St. Mary Church, Derby; and St. Patrick Church, Farmington, before coming to St. Lawrence Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, West Haven, Wednesday, 11 a.m., by The Most Rev. Daniel A. Cronin, S.T.D., Archbishop of Hartford, as the principal celebrant. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. His body will lie in state at St. Lawrence Church, Tuesday, after 4 p.m. A Parish Mass will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Church, Tuesday evening, 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Jubilee House, 40 Clifford St., Hartford, CT 06114.
