The Reverend James D. Schorr, Senior Priest-Retired, died Wednesday, 27 October 2021, after having received the prayerful support and consolation of the Sacraments.

James D. Schorr was born on 24 July 1931. His parents were the late Forrest and Mary (Patton). He was educated at East Elementary Grade School, Lancaster High School, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, North Central College, Naperville, Illinois, Evangelical Theological Seminary, Naperville, Illinois, Episcopal Theological School, Cambridge, Massachusetts and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland. On 7 December 1968 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bishop Clarence G. Issenmann ordained him to the priesthood for the service of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Father Schorr’s first assignment was as Parochial Vicar of St. Mel, Cleveland. On 21 March 1972 he was transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas, Cleveland to serve as Parochial Vicar. On 4 April 1975, Fr. Schorr was appointed Administrator pro tem of St. Thomas Aquinas, Cleveland. Fr. Schorr was assigned Parochial Vicar of St. Raphael, Bay Village on 26 May 1975. He was named Pastor of Christ the King, East Cleveland on 8 August 1979. On 24 June 1986 Fr. Schorr was named Pastor of St. Matthew, Akron. Fr. Schorr served as Chaplain, St. Luke Hospital, Cleveland from 1 September 1988 until 1 October 1992. On 22 March 1993 he was named Administrator of Holy Cross, Elyria where he served until his retirement on 30 April 2006.

At the request of the family there will be no wake or Vespers. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 04 November 2021, St. Mark Church, 15800 Montrose Ave., in Cleveland at 11:00 AM. Bishop Martin J. Amos will be the main celebrant and Father Daniel Schlegel will be the homilist. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park, Ohio.
