Father James E. Schott was called home to eternal rest by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 18, 2024 at the age of 88. Father Schott was born on May 30, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Schott and Edna Reckenbeil and his siblings George (Mary), Leo, Charles (Carol), Jane (Stanley), Frederick (Mearl), Vincent (Ethel) and JoAnn (Robert). He is survived by his sister in law, Ethel, numerous nieces and nephews along with many friends from St. Angela Merici and St. Francis Xavier.

Father Schott was a retired priest that was ordained on December 20, 1961 at St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican. He was a chaplain at West Jefferson Hospital, Tulane University Hospital and Clinic and Malta Park Assisted Living Residence. Presiding over baptisms and weddings, especially for family and friends, brought him joy. Favorite past times of his were going to daily mass, saying the rosary and hosting prayer groups. He enjoyed having breakfast with his friends after mass on Fridays and birthday lunches with his St. Angela Merici friends.

Father Schott will be remembered for his love of life, contagious smile, and his devotion to serving the Lord, our God. He was known for always saying, “You are a blessing” and “God bless you”. The family would like to thank all of his dear friends for being a blessing to him, especially Sidney Schmitt, William Steen, and Sylvia Thomas.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services on Monday, October 28, 2024, at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Garden Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70002.
