February 17, 1930 – November 6, 2013. Rev. John B. Fitzgerald was 83 and a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for 58 years. He served as Associate Pastor of St. Columban, Garden Grove; St. Bartholomew, Long Beach; St. Anthony, El Segundo; Immaculate Heart, Hollywood; Sacred Heart, Covina; St. Gregory the Great, Whittier; Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Santa Clarita. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Chaplain. His posts included Vietnam, USS New Jersey and Pearl Harbor and he received several military decorations. He served as pastor of St. Philip Neri, Lynwood and St. Maria Goretti, Long Beach. He was invested as a Knight Commander in the Order of the Holy Sepulcher in 1990. He retired as Pastor Emeritus of St. Maria Goretti in 2002. Visitation will take place at Holy Cross Mortuary on Wed., Nov. 20 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Thurs., Nov. 21 from 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Rosary will take place on Wed., Nov. 20, 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Archbishop Gomez on Thurs., Nov. 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave., Culver City.
