Reverend John Steven Kostek, 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 28, 2022, after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Hudson on July 10, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Hull) Kostek. Father John attended St. Mary’s Academy and High School graduating in 1960. He attended SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Mich. He was ordained on May 5, 1973, and served for 25 years in the Diocese of Albany. In 1998, he transferred to the Archdiocese of New York City, serving in Manhattan and on Staten Island.Upon retirement, he resided in Clifton Park, then Niskayuna, and eventually moved to the Saint John Vianney Clergy Residence for retired priests in the Bronx.

Father John is survived by his brother, Edward Kostek and sister-in-law, Daria Kostek of Schenectady; and niece, Jessica (Marc) Gravelin, a great-nephew, Luke Tyler Gravelin and a great-niece, Ella Skye Gravelin of Glenville.

There will be no calling hours but there will be a concelebrated Mass of Burial in the Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road (Rte. 50) on Tuesday, August 2, at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the family plot in the Cedar Park Cemetery in Hudson at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by the Saint John Vianney Residence for retired priests of the Archdiocese of New York City. Envelopes will be provided.
