Rev. John L. “Fr. Jack” Schindler, 59, of Louisville, died Monday, December 8, 2003, in Oberammergau, Germany. He was born June 25, 1944, in Louisville. He grew up in the St. Stephen Martyr parish and attended St.Stephen Martyr grade school, Trinity High School, St.Meinrad Archabbey, St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore, MD.and Sacred Heart School of Theology in Milwaukee, WI. He was ordained a deacon in 1977 and ordained into the priesthood on May 25, 1985. He was an associate pastor at St. Edward parish from 1985-1988 and founding pastor of St. Patrich in Eastwood from 1988-2002. At the time of his death, he was the pastor at St. Joseph parish.

He was a member of the American Guild of Organists, National Association of Pastoral Musicians, International Catholic Stewardship Council and Archdiocesan Catholic Cemeteries Board of Directors. Previously, he was the organist and choir director at St. Paul, Ascension and St. Raphael elementary school. He was a part-time chaplain at St.Xavier High School in 1988 and at Assumption High School in 1994. He served on the Priests’Council from 1993-1996 and 2002 until his death.He served on the College of Consultors from 1993-1998.He was the director of music for the Office of Worship from 1985-1988. Survivors include four brothers, William H. Schindler, Jr.(Diana)and Dennis J.Timothy G.and Kevin T. Schindler; two sisters, Patricia Gregg(Hardin) and Cheryl Suhr(Paul); and many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St.Joseph Catholic Church,1406 East Washington Street, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be form 2-9p.m.Tuesday and 9-11a.m.Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Expression of sympathy may go tot Mass of the Air.
