Rev. Joseph P. Andres, 87, died on Monday, February 2. He was born on December 26, 1921 in Cincinnati. He did his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and studied theology at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West. He was ordained on February 28, 1948 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Norwood by Archbishop John T. McNicholas.
Fr. Andres received his first assignment on March 11, 1948 as assistant at the former St. Matthew Parish in Norwood before serving as assistant at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Cincinnati, (1949-1953) and St. Patrick Parish, Fayetteville, (1953-1968). Fr. Andres was administrator of St. Michael Parish, Mt.Orab; Holy Ghost Parish, Vera Cruz; St. Martin Parish, St. Martin and St. Philomena Parish, Stonelick. He also was pastor of St. Francis de SalesParish, Lebanon, (1968-1974), Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Reading, (1974-1982), and Holy Trinity Parish, Batavia, (1982-1990).
He was appointed chaplain of St. Aloysius Military Academy, Fayetteville, in 1953. Fr. Andres began as dean of the St. Martin Deanery in February 1987 before he retired in July 1990.
Reception of the Body will be Thursday, Feb. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Milford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Rev. William Cross will preach. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until Mass begins. Burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Cincinnati will immediately follow the funeral.
