Rev. Joseph Nolan was born in Mullingar Ireland to Arthur Nolan, a police officer, and Mary Nolan, a teacher. He entered St. Kieran’s College Seminary in Kilkenny at the age of 17 and was ordained at St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny on May 31, 1960 by Bishop Patrick Collier. He served in England for 8 years before coming to the Diocese of Orlando in 1968 where he would be the first priest to be incardinated into the newly established Diocese of Orlando.
Rev. Nolan served at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, and as pastor of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, where he oversaw the construction of a new church building.
In 1989, Rev. Nolan was appointed pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Melbourne Beach where he served for twenty-six years.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Anne Nolan, a niece Mairead (Dara O’Suillebhain ) Nolan, and nephews Colm Nolan and Finian Nolan, grand nieces Eva and Lucy O’Suillebhain and grand nephew Aedan Nolan, his fellow priests, large circle of friends & devoted parishioners and his faithful dog Lady.
The Vigil will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3780 Florida A1A, Melbourne Beach on Sunday, October 11 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 3780 Florida A1A, Melbourne Beach.
Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 13 at 11:30 a.m. at San Pedro Priests’ Cemetery, 2400 Dike Road, Winter Park.
