Reverend Lawrence S. Heeg, age 82, of Chesterton, IN passed away Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was born on February 22, 1931 in Gary, IN to Joseph and Valeria (Horvath) Heeg. He was baptized on March 3, 1931 and ordained on May 25, 1957. He is survived by several cousins in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ronald Heeg. He served in the U.S. Army as Chaplain until 1968. He was the Associate Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Hammond, IN, Queen of All Saints, Michigan City, IN, and St. Peter & Paul, Merrillville, IN. He established and built from the ground up St. Stephen, Martyr, Merrillville, IN where he served as Pastor. He last served as Pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chesterton, IN. Father Heeg was an avid skier, fisherman, hunter, and boater. He was an excellent woodcarver, accomplished artist, and chef. He was a licensed pilot with many flight hours, and he loved his Harley and traveling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Celebrant Bishop Dale Melczek and Bishop Carl Mengeling concelebrating along with a host of other clergy at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton, IN 46304. Burial to follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of evening prayers at 7:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church.
