The Rev. Father Marcello Latona, pastor at Most Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church in Astoria, died on Aug. 4, 2008. He was 70 years old.

Latona was born Mar. 8, 1938 and ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1970.

He served the Brooklyn parishes of Queen of All Saints, Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mary Queen of Heaven and Our Lady of Grace. He was appointed pastor of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Whitestone in September 1990. In September 2005, he was appointed pastor of Most Precious Blood, in which position he served until his death.

Viewing will take place at Thomas M. Quinn & Sons Funeral Home, 35-20 Broadway, Long Island City, on Wednesday, August 6 from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, August 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. A Vigil Mass will take place at Most Precious Blood on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and Latona’s Funeral Mass will take place at the church on Friday at 11 a.m. He will be buried in Westbury, Long Island, New York.

His fellow priests at Most Precious Blood ask that prayers be said for the repose of his soul and for the consolation of his family and friends and hope that he may rest in the peace of Christ, the Risen Lord.
