Fr. Michael Joseph Vinh Ngoc Nguyen, Pastor of Resurrection of Our Lord Parish, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 25, 2013. Age 55 years. Beloved son of My and Nhan Nguyen. Loving brother of Hue, Nguyet, Anh, Tuan, Kim-Hoa, Fr. Young “Dung”, Huong, Ly-Huong Nguyen, and the late An and Thu Nguyen. He is also survived by his American adoptive parents, John and Martha O’Dowd, and their children, Agnes Faucheaux and Kevin O’Dowd, his aunt, Sr. Josephine Nang Nguyen, his uncle, Fr. James Bach, his dear friend, Colleen R. LaRocca, and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends, and devoted parishioners. Fr. Michael Joseph was born in South Vietnam on May 9, 1957. He came to the United States in 1975, studied at the University of Lincoln, Nebraska, the University of New Orleans, Louisiana and the Pontificio Collegio Urbano in Rome. He entered Notre Dame Seminary and was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1990. His first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Mary Magdalen Church from 1990 to 1994. He then served as parochial vicar at St. Catherine of Siena from 1994 to 1995. He went for studies at Catholic University in 1995 and the Angelicium in Rome from 1996 to 1999. He was parochial administrator at Resurrection of Our Lord in April 2002 and was named pastor on May 10, 2003. Fr. MichaelJoseph served on the Pastoral Care and Practices Committee of the Priests’ Council and was the Vietnamese Representative/Liaison for the Pastoral Plan of the Vietnamese Community. Fr. worked diligently to restore Resurrection of Our Lord Parish after Hurricane Katrina. He was currently working to reopen St. Nicholas of Myra as a mission of Resurrection. Well done, good and faithful servant. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a traditional Vietnamese “Le Phat Tang” (Burial Rite with Mass) at Mary Queen of Vietnam, 5069 Willowbrook Dr. in New Orleans, on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 6:00PM. A visitation will be held at the church from 7:00PM until 8:00PM. A visitation will be held at Resurrection of Our Lord Church, 9701 Hammond St. in New Orleans, on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM. Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 8:00AM until 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Resurrection of Our Lord Church.
