WHITE, FR. MICHAEL J. a priest of the Diocese of Birmingham passed away April 14, 2013 at the age of 89. Only son of Patrick and Dora White, and survived by his sister, Doreen White of Limerick, Ireland. Father White served in various parishes of the Diocese of Birmingham, including the following: Blessed Sacrament Church of Birmingham, St. Thomas Church in Montevallo, St. Mary of the Visitation Church of Huntsville, St. Theresa Church of Leeds, Holy Spirit Church of Tuscaloosa, and Our Lady of the Valley Church of Birmingham. While Pastor of Our Lady of the Valley Church, Father White built the School, and the new Church and Rectory. He served on many Boards and Committees of the Diocese. He also served as the first Chancellor of the new Diocese of Birmingham when it was founded in December, 1969. The visitation for Father White will be at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Birmingham on Tuesday Evening from 5 o’clock to 7 o’clock with the Rosary at 7 o’clock (5514 Double Oak Ln., Birmingham, AL, off of County Road 119), with a Mass the following day at The Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham at 10′ o’clock in the morning. Burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
