BARTH, REV. MSGR. CHARLES P., J.C.D. – entered into eternal rest on February 7, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, PA on August 27, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles P. and Loretta Barth. He was a graduate of St. Charles College, St. Mary’s Seminary and received a Doctorate in Canon Law from Lateran University. He was ordained to the priesthood in Camden on March 26, 1956 and was named a papal chamberlain in 1964.

Msgr. Barth served as Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Church Atlantic City He was Pastor of Christ the King Church Haddonfield, St. Joseph Pro Cathedral Camden, St. Agnes Church Blackwood, and St. Peter Church Merchantville. In 2000, he was transferred to diocesan administration in the Chancery and served as Director in Residence of the Sacred Heart Residence for Priests in Cherry Hill. In 2002, he became administrator of St. Anthony of Padua Church Hammonton until his retirement. Msgr. Barth served as Vicar for the City of Camden, Chairman for Social Justice and the Moral Committee, Secretary of the Diocesan Building Commission for many years, Moderator of the Friends of the Sacred Heart, and Moderator and an active member of Marriage Encounter and Family Ministry.

He was the brother of Donald and his wife Patricia Barth of Shepherdstown, WV and the late Helen Barth. He is also survived by two nephews, one niece, four great-nephews and one great-niece.

Reception of Msgr. Barth’s body will take place at 3:00 PM Friday February 12 at St. Anthony of Padua Church 285 Route 206 Hammonton, NJ where a viewing will continue until 6:30 PM. Bishop Joseph Galante will celebrate the Mass of Jesus Christ the High Priest at 7:00 PM in church. A viewing will also be held on Saturday February 13, 2010 from 9:00-10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment will be in New St. Mary’s Cemetery Bellmawr, NJ.
