Rev. Msgr. David R. Hintz

Msgr. David Hintz of the Diocese of Lincoln died Aug. 18, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.

Msgr. Hintz was ordained in 1986. He studied microbiology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and worked in that field before completing his seminary studies.

Msgr. Hintz spent 19 of his 29 years in the priesthood serving at St. Patrick Parish in Lincoln. He was an assistant pastor there from 1986-88, and later served as pastor, from 1994 to 2011. He also served in parishes in Nebraska City and Bellwood, and taught at Aquinas High School in David City, and Pius X High School in Lincoln. He also served as assistant director for Catholic cemeteries in the diocese from 1996-1998, and director of Catholic cemeteries of the diocese from 1998-2013.

He was named Monsignor (Chaplain to the Pope) Oct. 10, 2007.

In 2011, Msgr. Hintz was appointed to the staff at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, where he lived until being admitted to Madonna Hospital in August.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a funeral Mass Aug. 21 in St. Patrick Church in Lincoln. Emeritus Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz and more than 80 priests of the Diocese of Lincoln concelebrated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Msgr. Hintz is survived by a sister Jeane Ann Johnson, brother Daniel, four nieces, three nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
