KRAUS MONSIGNOR DONALD W.Age 82 of Brighton Heights, entered into Eternal Rest on Monday, October 5, 2009. Born March 2, 1927 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Amand F. and Marie G. Schoeneman Kraus. He is survived by his brother Charles A., (late Audrey B) Kraus, niece and nephew Janet Kraus (Bruce Palmer) and the late David (Kathy) Kraus, and great-nieces Phoebe Palmer and Clare Costanzo. Monsignor Kraus was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. He was ordained a Priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 29, 1954 by Bishop Dearden. Monsignor Kraus served in many parishes in his early priesthood and then continued his studies at Duquesne Univ., Univ. of St. Louis and the Pontifical Univ. of St. Thomas where he was awarded the Doctor of Sacred Theology in 1965. From 1965 to 1981 he was the First President/Rector of the Diocesan St. Paul Seminary. On March 23, 1968, Msgr. Kraus was nominated as a Papal Chamberlain and served as a Consultor to the Bishop from 1970 to 1972. He was the pastor of St. Scholastica Parish in Aspinwall from 1981 to 1994 when he retired and served as Senior Priest at Holy Wisdom Parish in the Spring Hill section of the city. Msgr. Kraus retired from the active ministry in 2001 and was a resident of St. John Vianney Manor until he took up residence at the Little Sisters of the Poor. Friends will be received at the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Brighton Heights, Tues 7-9 PM and Wed 1-4 PM, where a Mass of Translation will be celebrated at 5 PM, and also at St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland, Thurs 9-11:30 AM prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, offerings may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
