Reverend Monsignor Francis A. Barszczewski, Retired, Resident, Villa Saint Joseph, Darby, died at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.  Monsignor Barszczewski was born on July 14, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He is the son of the late Anthony S. Barszczewski and the late Frances Jaskowiak.  Monsignor Barszczewski attended Saint Laurentius Parochial School, Philadelphia, and Saint Joseph Preparatory School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. Monsignor Barszczewski was ordained on May 18, 1968, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol, and named Honorary Prelate to His Holiness Pope John Paul II on March 14, 1998. Monsignor Barszczewski served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Southampton, and Saint Ladislaus Parish, Philadelphia.  He also attended graduate studies at the North American College in Rome, Italy. Monsignor Barszczewski served on the Faculty at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook. He also served as Secretary and Archdiocesan Judge in the Office of the Metropolitan Tribunal.  Monsignor Barszczewski served as Professor and Chaplain at Neumann University  from 1982 to 1994. In June 1994, Monsignor Barszczewski was appointed Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Clifton Heights. He retired from active ministry in October 2007.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Clifton Heights, on Monday, February 13, 2012, at 9:00 AM, followed by a viewing.  Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. will celebrate a Funeral Mass for Monsignor Barszczewski at Sacred Heart Church, Clifton Heights, on Monday, February 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Most Reverend Francis X. DiLorenzo, Bishop, Diocese of Richmond, Reverend Joseph B. Jung, Reverend Jan Palkowski, and Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan. Bishop DiLorenzo will be the homilist.

Monsignor Barszczewski is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Barszczewski, his niece, Elizabeth Williamson, and his cousins.

Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Memorial Fund, 316 E. Broadway Ave. Clifton Heights, PA  19018.
