Monsignor George Patrick Thompson, 78, was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 7, 1941 to John and Susan (Clifford) Thompson. He entered Eternal Life on November 1, 2019, the Feast of All Saints.

Msgr. Thompson was cherished and loved by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins as well as countless parishioners and priests while serving the Archdiocese of New York for over 50 years. Msgr. Thompson was an athlete and sports fan. He completed his studies at North American College in Vatican City and was ordained by Pope Paul VI on December 18, 1965.

Among his many priestly assignments he was assistant director of vocations, 1968-1969, and director of vocations for the Archdiocese, 1969-1974; spiritual director of Cathedral Prep 1974 – 1985 and director from 1986-1988. He was named a Monsignor in 1986.

Msgr. George Patrick Thompson was pastor of St. Denis, Yonkers, 1988-1993. He was assistant director of Priest Personnel 1993-1999 and director 1999-2002. He was appointed regional vicar of Northern Westchester/Putnam in 2001. Msgr. Thompson was pastor of St. Patrick’s, Bedford 2002-2014 and retired as administrator of St. Patrick’s 2014-2016. After retiring he served as a Senior Priest in St. Denis-St. Columba Parish in Hopewell Junction, NY.

The wake will be at St. Patrick’s Church, Bedford, NY on Wednesday November 6 from 3 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Bedford on Thursday, November 7 at 10 AM. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York.
