Rt. Rev. Msgr. Howard F. Manny, pastor emeritas of St. Luke’s Church, 84, of St. Luke’s Church Rectory, State Street, Schenectady, died at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady on Octobe 8, 2002.

He was the son of the late Chester and Mary Manny born on April 12, 1918.

Rt. Rev. Msgr. Manny graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, St. Bonaventure College in Olean, North America College and Gregorian University and St. Bernard’s Seminary, Rochester. His first assignment was to Annunciation Church in Ilion. He then served as assistant pastor at St. Luke’s in Schenectady from 1944-1964. In 1955, he was appointed vice chancellor for the Diocese of Albany and remained in that position until 1970.

In 1962, he was named Domestic Prelate with the title of Right Reverend Monsignor. He served as the secretary to Bishop William Scully and served on the Board of Consultors for the Diocese of Albany from 1964-1982. In 1978, he was appointed chairman of the Board of Trustees at St. Clare’s Hospital and served in that capacity for more than 20 years. Msgr. Manny was appointed pastor of St. Luke’s parish in 1964 and remained there until his retirement in 1994.

He was made a Patroon of the City of Schenectady in honor of his 50th anniversary to the priesthood.

He was also a former member of the Board of Trustees of Catholic Central High School, a member of the Wolfert’s Roost Country Club and Pine Haven Country Club. He was ordained June 3, 1944 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception by Bishop Gibbons.

He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond L. Manny Sr. and his wife Alice Manny.

Survived by 7 nieces and nephews; also survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

He is buried in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet, NY.
