In 1942 he served during World War II in North Africa and Italy until 1946. He received the Purple Heart after being wounded in the battle of Monte Casino. He served as Chancellor, Vicar General, Consultor, Censor of Books, Examiner of Junior Clergy, Scout Chaplain, Pro-Synodal Judge, and Chairman of the Commission of Church Music and three times Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese during Episcopal vacancies.
