VARVARO–Willaim A., Msgr. The family of Msgr. William A. Varvaro announces the death of the pastor of St. Margaret’s Church, 66-05 79th Pl., Middle Village, on January 25 after a brief illness. Reposing in St. Margaret’s Parish Hall Sunday January 28 from 12 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm and Monday, January 29, from 2 to 5 pm. Vigil Mass at 7:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held in St. Margaret’s Church Tuesday, January 30, at 10:30 am. All priests are invited to concelebrate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village. He was a member of the Priests’ Purgatorial Society. Msgr. Varvaro, who held the title of Protonotary Apostolic, was a prominent canon lawyer and former president of the Canon Law Society of America, which honored him with the ”Role of Law Award” in 1996. He was a former Officialis/ Judicial Vicar in the Diocese and still served as a Promoter of Justice. He was the director of the National Italian Apostolate Conference. A graduate of the Gregorian University in Rome, where he studied theology and canon law, he had served in the diocesan Curia as Assistant Chancellor and Vice Chancellor. He had been pastor of St. Margaret’s Church since 1993. Survivors are his mother, Jenny Varvaro, a sister and brother-in-law, Frances and John Kaley, a niece, Regina Kaley, and two nephews, Dr. Thomas Kaley and Mark Kaley. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pontifical North American College in Rome or the Msgr. John H. Maurer Scholarship Fund of St. Margaret’s Church.
