Father Paul Berg entered eternal life on Monday January 26, 2009. He was 87 years old. He was born on October 26, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, to Emil and Eileen (Clemens) Berg.

Father Berg was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on May 22, 1948. For many years, he taught philosophy and served as a basketball coach at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.

Father Berg’s many assignments included serving as weekend assistant at Mother of Our Savior Parish, Detroit; Our Lady of Loretto Parish, Redford; St. Benedict Parish, Highland
Park; St. Hugo of the Hills Parish, Bloomfield Hills; St. Kenneth Parish, Plymouth; St. Rita Parish, Detroit; and Cardinal Leger Community Parish, Detroit.

In addition, Father Berg served as associate pastor at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Detroit; St. Patrick and St. Aloysius Parishes, both in Detroit; and as
administrator at St. Paul Albanian Parish, Rochester Hills.

Father Berg is survived by his sister, Sister Barbara Berg, IHM; sister-in-law, Betsy Berg-Jachman; nephews, John (Patricia), Paul (Susan), and James and their children.

Visitation: Father Berg will be waked at St. Kenneth Parish, 14591 Haggerty Road, Plymouth (734-420-0288) on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 from 2 until 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Father Berg’s body will be received at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, 2701 Chicago Boulevard, Detroit. Visitation: from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Father Berg’s body will lie in state at Sacred Heart Major Seminary on Friday, January 30, 2009 from 9 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial: at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
