Rev. Paul G. McQuillen, S.S.E., 65, died on January 11, 2016. Father McQuillen, son of George J. McQuillen, Sr. and Mary G. (Harrington) McQuillen, was born on May 25, 1950 in Winthrop, MA. He was a professed member of the Society of St. Edmund for 42 years and an Edmundite priest for 38 years.

In 1972, Fr. McQuillen graduated Cum Laude from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, VT, receiving an A.B. in Psychology. He made his first profession of vows in 1973. Fr. McQuillen completed his master’s degree in Theology at the University of Saint Michael’s College in Toronto, Canada in 1976. He also received a master’s degree in Formative Spirituality from Duquesne University, Pittsburg, PA, in 1980.

On May 7, 1977, Bishop John A. Marshall ordained Fr. McQuillen at the Chapel of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT. Following ordination to the priesthood, Fr. McQuillen began his priestly duties as Assistant Pastor at Church of the Nativity in Swanton, VT until 1979 and served as Director and Assistant Director of Novices at the Edmundite Apostolate Center in Mystic, CT from 1980 until 1989.

Fr. McQuillen ministered at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Marrero, LA from 1990 until 2007, becoming Pastor in 1992. During 2003 and 2004, he also served as President of Bishop Perry Middle School in New Orleans, LA. From 2008 until 2009, Fr. McQuillen began an Edmundite Evangelization Initiative developing Retreat Ministry in Selma, AL. Fr. McQuillen served as Pastor of St. Jude Catholic Church in Montgomery, AL from 2009 to the present.

Along with his Edmundite Brothers, Father McQuillen is survived by his brothers, George J. McQuillen, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Kenneth M. McQuillen and his wife, Anne, and Mark S. McQuillen and his wife, Flora, and many nieces and nephews.

A wake service will be held on Thursday, January 14th, from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at Ross-Clayton Chapel, 1412 Adams Avenue, Montgomery, AL. On Friday, January 15th, a viewing will be held at 10:00a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 2048 W. Fairview Avenue, Montgomery, AL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery in Selma, AL. A reception will be held at the Edmundite Missions’ Center of Hope in Selma, AL.
