A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday morning, at the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church for, Rev. Paul R. Tobin, 77, who passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015. Father Tobin was born June 29, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of Paul J. and Rose Borsani Tobin. He attended St. Patrick and St. Ann Elementary Schools and Ursuline High School, all in Youngstown. He studied for the priesthood at St. Gregory Seminary in Cincinnati, Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and the North American College in Rome, where he earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology.

He was ordained Dec. 16, 1964, in Rome, by the Most Rev. Francis F. Reh. In 1965, following ordination and completion of his studies in Italy, he served as assistant pastor of the Holy Family Parish in Poland, he taught at Warren John F. Kennedy High School in Warren from 1966 to 1967, Ursuline High School in Youngstown from 1967 to 1969, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, he was named principal of St. John High School in Ashtabula, a post he held until 1981, along with area assistant superintendent of schools for Ashtabula County. While working in the schools he assisted at various parishes, including the Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna and St. Rose of Lima in Youngstown, which is now a part of the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell. Father Tobin was appointed pastor of Regina Coeli Parish in Alliance in 1981. In 2004, Father Tobin was named senior priest active for St. Elizabeth (now closed), St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph the Provider Parishes in Campbell, which is now part of the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell, where he continued to serve following his retirement in 2008.

Father Tobin was also active in the Knights of Columbus and the Cursillo Movement; he served as Dean of Stark County East and Ashtabula County for three terms. He was honored by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, as the 1999 Citizen of the Year and he was also active with the Salvation Army, Food Pantry and the Geneva Ministerial Association.

He is survived by brothers, Joseph Tobin of California, Thomas Tobin of South Carolina, and Patrick Tobin of Boardman; sisters Mary Ann Tobin of Geneva, and Kathleen Vasko of Saybrook; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Daniel; and two nephews, John Paul Tobin and Sean Paul Griffith.

Fr. Tobin’s family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends at the Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Joseph the Provider Catholic Church, 633 Porter Ave., Campbell, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church. –
