Rev. Philip A. Cabasino, C.Ss.R, 99, died on July 1, 2020, just a few weeks shy of his 100th birthday. Beloved son to the late Louis and Mary E. Cabasino (nee Totsok), also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and his Redemptorist confreres.

He was born on July 26, 1920 in Corona, New York, to Louis and Mary (Tatsock). Baptized at Our Lady of Sorrows in Corona, he was later confirmed at St. Anastasia’s in Douglaston, New York. He came to the Redemptorists from his family home in Little Neck, Long Island, and attended St. Mary’s Minor Seminary at North East, Pennsylvania, between 1939 and 1940.

He professed temporary vows at St. Mary’s, Ilchester, Maryland, on August 2, 1941; made perpetual vows on September 2, 1944; and was ordained June 22, 1947, at Mount St. Alphonsus in Esopus, New York.

Father Cabasino’s early ministry was in two parishes: Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Tampa, Florida (1947-1949), and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn, New York (1949-1956). He served as an Army chaplain for 20 years (1956-1976), rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He took a leave of absence for one year in 1976.

From 1977 to 2019 he was stationed at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Mission Church) in Boston. He served the people of the parish and also served as civilian chaplain at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts. In his later years, owing to health concerns, he was reassigned to the St. John Neumann Residence at Stella Maris, Timonium, Maryland, on August 1, 2019.
