Father Richard E. “Rick” Miller, 57, former Elwood resident, died Oct. 13, 2008, at his residence in Lafayette, following a brief illness. He was born June 2, 1951, in Elwood.
He was a 1969 graduate of Salesian Junior Seminary in Cedar Lake, Ind. He was ordained Dec. 18, 1976, in the Roman Catholic Church, and returned later that year to the Angelicum in Rome to complete his STM master’s degree in theology.
He was an Ordained Priest in the Roman Catholic Church, serving in the Diocese of Lafayette, Ind. He served churches in Marion, Rochester, Lafayette, and Reynolds. He also later served on the Matrimonial Tribunal for the Lafayette Diocese.
Survivors include his sister, Andrea (husband, Roscoe) Sparks of Elwood; and two nephews, Nicholas P. Sparks and Benjamin M. Sparks, both of Elwood.
Father Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Eugene and Mary Patricia (Keller) Miller.
A solemn vespers funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Church in Lafayette, officiated by Bishop William L. Higi and Father Tim Alkire. Visitation two hours prior to the Thursday service at St. Boniface Church.
A second funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church in Elwood, officiated by Bishop William L. Higi and Father Paul Cochran. Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church.
Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elwood.
