The Rev. Robert L. Cummins, Jr . died at home on Palm Sunday, April 10, 2022, after a long, painful but courageously-fought battle with fibrosis of the lungs. Fr. Robert was born in Paducah, KY on January 28, 1947, the second son of Robert and Doris Cummins.

In addition to his parents, Fr. Robert was predeceased by his brothers Ron, Kevin, Billy and Brian. He is survived by his brother Gary and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fr. Robert served in many parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, as well as two years with the Christian Brothers teaching in Ethiopia. His passion, kindness and empathy brought comfort to many. Robert’s commitment to justice and caring for the vulnerable lifted the spirit of hope in those he served and challenged all to greater integrity and fidelity to the Gospel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 26, at the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake. Visitation will be in the church’s chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to Mass.
