The Rev. Robert H. Taylor, 81, Sioux Falls, S.D., died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at his home.

A funeral service was Tuesday, May 15, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. Burial followed at St. Adrian Catholic Cemetery in Adrian.

Robert Taylor was born June 13, 1930, to Bryan and Carolyn (Krapfl) Taylor in rural Nobles County. He graduated as valedictorian from St. Adrian Catholic High School in 1948, and summa cum laude from St. Mary’s College, Winona, in 1953. He completed his studies for the priesthood in Rome and was ordained on Dec. 16, 1956, in Rome.

His first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. John the Evangelist in Rochester in the summer of 1957 for three years. His other assignments over the years included assistant pastor at St. Stanislaus and an instructor at Cotter High School, both in Winona, for one year; an instructor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary for three years; an administrator at Holy Cross Parish in Dakota for six years; a pastor at Holy Cross in Dakota and Precious Blood in LaMoille for five years; a pastor at St. Pius in Rochester for 12 years; a pastor at St. Mary in Madelia for one year; a pastor at Holy Family in Lake Crystal and St. Katherine in Truman; a pastor at St. Leo in Pipestone and at St. Martin in Woodstock for four years.

In 1995 Father Taylor resigned from the active ministry and has lived in Sioux Falls the past 16 years. Since being relieved of his pastoral responsibilities, Father Taylor has worked with recently released prisoners in the process of rehabilitation. He has also worked within the Hispanic community and ministered to the homeless and the poor.

Fr. Taylor is survived by his seven siblings, Jerry (Lucille) Taylor, Luverne, Sr. Brian Taylor, Assisi Heights, Rochester, Jim (Joan) Taylor, Adrian, Carroll Taylor, Hopkins, Bill (Dee) Taylor, Worthington, Bryan Jr. (Mary Ann) Taylor, Mason City, Iowa, and Gene (Marva) Taylor, Adrian; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Taylor, Worthington; and 40 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lloyd Taylor in 1998 and Earl Taylor in 1999; a nephew, John, in 1995; and two sisters-in-law, Bev in 2012 and Lorraine in 2001.
