Rev. Father Stephen Joseph Peters,  born on January 10, 1941 in El Paso, Texas, passed away on December 15, 2020 in El Paso, Texas. Father Peters, a retired priest, died from heart failure, according to the Roman Catholic Diocese of El Paso.

Peters, 79, was ordained May 25, 1967, and retired in September 2011 after 44 years of service.“I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Fr. Stephen Peters. He served the community of God in El Paso with great fervor and immense dedication for 44 years,” Bishop Mark J. Seitz said in a diocesan news release. “We have lost a great priest and my prayers today are for the eternal repose of his soul and the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed.”

Peters served at St. Patrick Cathedral, Holy Cross in Las Cruces, St. Raphael and Blessed Sacrament. He also had been a director of vocations, vice-rector and rector of St. Charles Seminary. He also served on the Diocesan Review Board and various other Diocesan Boards until his death.

He is survived by James Leonard Peters (Brother), Suzanne Eleanor Kelly (Sister).

Graveside Service will be held on January 2, 2021 at 10:00 am at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd., El Paso, TX.
