Monsignor Terence Joseph Tekippe, a Professor at Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, LA, died Monday, June 27, 2005 while traveling in Greece. Monsignor Tekippe was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1940 and lived in New Orleans, LA for the past sixty years. He attended St. James Major Elementary School and then entered St. Joseph’s Seminary in St. Benedict, LA where he completed high school and junior college. He completed college at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans receiving his B.A. degree in 1962. He then atttended the Gregorian University in Rome where he received the S.T.L. degree in Theology in 1966. While in Rome, he was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1965. He continued his graduate studies receiving his M.A. degree from Notre Dame (New Orleans) in 1968, a Ph.D. in Theology from Fordham University (New York) in 1972, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Tulane University (New Orleans) in 1980. He taught at Notre Dame (New Orleans) from 1968 to the present, except for periods of graduate study and summer and sabbatical appointments at other institutions. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter H. Tekippe; and brother, Denis J. Tekippe. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Martin Tekippe; two sisters, Margaret Alphonso and Dr. Marci Malinsky; and four brothers, Bernard J., Dr. Vincent J., Dr. Charles J. and Edward J. Tekippe. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Abbey, St. Benedict, LA on Monday, July 4, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Abbey. Visitation will be at VICKERS, VERRETTE & DORNAN FUNERAL HOME, 3027 Jean Lafitte Parkway, Chalmette, LA on Sunday, July 3, 2005 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Monday, July 4, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
