Father Thomas Esper passed on from this life on December 27, 2017 at the age of 91.

Father Esper was born March 10, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan and ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit on June 2, 1951.

Father Esper served as pastor of St. Edward on the Lake Parish, Lakeport and Holy Innocents Parish, Roseville. He also served as Associate Pastor at St. Mary of Redford Parish, Detroit; St. Joseph Parish, Trenton; St. Gertrude Parish, St. Clair Shores; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, River Rouge; and St. Louis Parish, Clinton Township.

Visitation will take place on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 2–8 pm at St. Edward on the Lake Parish, 6945 Lakeshore Road, Lakeport, Michigan 48059 with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

Father Esper will lie in repose on Tuesday, January 2 at St. Edward on the Lake Parish from 9 a.m. until the celebration of his funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Alsphonsus Cemetery, Dearborn.

Father Esper was predeceased by his parents, Anthony M. and Gertrude E. Esper; five brothers, Gregory, Reverend Clement, Raymond, Jerome and Tony; two sisters, Rita Hoare and Alma Given.
