Father William A. Gorman, 71, died peacefully on October 23, 2014 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late William A. and Helene (Rice) Gorman. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1960, as well as Siena College, class of 1965. He attended Our Lady of Angels Seminary in Glenmont and Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md. He was ordained by Bishop Broderick on May 19, 1973 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. In 1969, Father Bill was awarded a master’s degree in music from the Catholic University of America. He served as pastor in multiple parishes throughout the diocese. His final assignment was as pastor of Our Lady of the Valley parish in Middleburgh and as sacramental minister to Our Lady of Fatima parish in Delanson. Father Bill also served as chaplain to the Ressurection Sisters in Castleton and to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Latham. From 1989 to 1991, he served as a military chaplain in the Air Force and served in the Persian Gulf during the conflict. Father Bill retired last April and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his sister, M. Kathryn Gorman, and by numerous cousins and friends. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Troy on Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at 11 a.m., with Bishop Scharfenberger as the principal celebrant and Bishop Hubbard as homilist. The reception of the body is scheduled to be held at Sacred Heart Church in Troy on Monday, October 27 at 4 p.m., with visitation continuing until 7 p.m.
