Fr. Zachary Shore Obituary

Fr. Zachary Joseph-Michael Shore passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23rd, 2011, born March 21st, 1937. Youngest son of the late William and Bridie Shore. He was born Joseph Michael Shore and raised in San Francisco. Attended Saint Paul Grammer School. Upon graduation (1951) entered Mount La Salle High School in Napa. He entered the Novitiate of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (Christian Brothers). In 1955 received the religious habit and name, Brother Zachary. Attended Saint Mary’s College in Moraga where he graduated in 1960. Taught at Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco from 1960 – 1965. His other teaching assignments were: Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, 1965 – 1967. Principal of Garces High School in Bakersfield until 1970. He was appointed director of novices in Napa from 1973 – 1977. In 1979 he withdrew from the Christian Brothers to attend Saint Patrick seminary to prepare for the priesthood. He was ordained in 1981 by Archbishop John R. Quinn. He had assignments at our Lady of Mercy Church in Daly City and Saint Cecilia Church in San Francisco. Pastor of Most Holy Redeemer Church for twelve and a half years. Pastor of The Church of the Visitacion for four years. Upon retirement, he resided at Alma Via in San Francisco. His oldest brother John F. Shore passed away in 1979. He is survived by his brother William P. Shore (Jeanne) he is uncle to Karen (Jim Dobberstein), Bill (Jena) and Tim (Kristin) Shore. Grand nieces and nephews, Katie, Lauren, Tom, Julia, Darby, Liam and Teige. He is also uncle to Maureen, Sandy, and the late John and Michael Shore, children of his late brother John Shore. A special thanks to his good friends, staff and caregivers at Alma Via of San Francisco. His family would also like to thank the caring nurses and doctors at St Mary’s I.C.U. and Kentfield Rehab in Marin County. Friends may visit 9:30am with a Rosary 10:45am followed by a Funeral Mass 11am on Friday, July 29, all at St. Thomas More Church, 1300 Junipero Serra Blvd, San Francisco Ca. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the Sacred Heart Cathedral Building Fund, 1055 Ellis St. San Francisco Ca. 94109.
